Sangthongrimkhong review: small Twin and Double rooms by the Mekong, temple walks and contrasting guest reports about supplies, noise and parking.

Sangthongrimkhong Hotel has a clear reason to consider it: a That Phanom address beside the Mekong, with guests describing access to the riverside and temple. Its rooms are small, and the recent accounts range from warm hospitality to complaints about basic supplies and noise. This is a location-led choice rather than a hotel to book for a long list of facilities.

01

The Twin is listed larger than the Double

Agoda describes the Standard Twin at 15 square metres with a river view, while Standard Double is listed at 12 square metres. The room descriptions use both king and double terminology for the one-bed option. The useful distinction is therefore two beds and a documented river-view label versus the smaller one-bed category.

A riverfront address does not make every room a large balcony room. At these listed sizes, luggage space and the bed arrangement can have more effect on comfort than a small difference in the rate. The images and room-specific view description deserve attention together.

02

The riverside location appears in current accounts

An October 2026 Agoda guest described food stalls and shops along the Mekong in the evening. A July guest said that the temple could be reached on foot, while an April 2026 Trip.com visitor also valued the proximity for making merit. These are useful descriptions of how guests used the address.

One October guest mentioned a market on particular mornings. That individual report is not treated here as a verified market timetable. A traveller staying specifically for a market should confirm its current arrangements separately, while still recognising the riverside as the hotel's central attraction.

03

Hospitality, room supplies and sleeping conditions

A July 2026 Agoda visitor praised the housekeeper's welcome and help before the stay. An April 2026 Trip.com guest likewise found the family-run hotel clean and the owner attentive. That visitor reported a water heater and basic washing supplies but no hairdryer.

A June 2026 Trip.com guest had a much less satisfactory experience and reported missing basic supplies. These are contrasting individual encounters, not evidence of a single dependable amenity package. Someone who relies on a hairdryer or particular toiletries should not infer them from the room's general Standard label.

An October 2025 Agoda guest complained about hearing nearby housekeeping conversations and videos through the room. The same visitor described the room as old and the parking as cramped. Those concerns sit alongside later guests who were pleased with cleanliness and the location.

The hotel should therefore not be labelled universally quiet merely because it faces the river. For a light sleeper, the room's position and internal sound insulation matter separately from the outdoor setting. For a driver, the presence of parking is also different from a guarantee of abundant space for every arrival.

04

Best considered for a short, place-focused stay

Sangthongrimkhong suits travellers who put the riverside and temple access ahead of room size. The 15-square-metre Twin with its river-view description is a different proposition from the smaller Standard Double, even though both are basic room categories.

Choose it with modest expectations about facilities and a willingness to weigh the mixed room reports. It offers a recognisable That Phanom setting, but the evidence does not support treating friendly individual service or an attractive river photograph as proof of consistently strong soundproofing, parking capacity or bathroom supplies.
