Phakawan Hotel

Phakawan Hotel review: smaller garden-style rooms, a transport-dependent setting and dated guest reports about low beds, room allocation and wet-weather access.

Phakawan Hotel suits a different kind of Maha Sarakham stop from a central walking base. Guests have liked its quieter, countryside feeling, but the outlying Waeng Nang address and several specific practical reports deserve attention. A low sleeping platform, a wet-weather arrival and a room-allocation problem are more useful to the decision than assuming every garden photograph means effortless access.

01

The room sizes differ only modestly

Agoda lists Standard at 24 square metres and Deluxe Double and Deluxe Twin at 26 square metres. The Standard and Deluxe Double entries specify a king bed. The Twin’s bed wording is inconsistent across sellers: Agoda describes two double beds, while other room descriptions use ordinary Twin wording.

That small increase in area is not the same as a large suite upgrade. If two separate beds or a particular bed width matters, settle the actual configuration rather than reading too much into the Deluxe label. Expedia separately identifies Standard Double, Deluxe Double and Deluxe Twin room categories.

A nature-view label refers to the outlook. It does not certify that every room has an easy ground-level approach or a conventional raised bed frame. The guest accounts make those separate questions worth considering.

02

A quiet setting comes with transport tradeoffs

An April 2026 Standard guest liked the peaceful atmosphere and an older staff member’s help, while noting that the property was outside the city. A July 2025 visitor also found the room adequately equipped but considered repeated evening journeys into town less convenient.

A December 2025 Deluxe guest liked a short quiet stay but said their GPS initially led them to the wrong area. These accounts support checking the actual 349 Moo 12, Waeng Nang address for arrival. They do not establish a dependable public-transport route or make the hotel a substitute for arranging a car.

03

A low bed and a wet-weather arrival affected one stay

A July 2026 Standard guest described a comfortable mattress placed low on a raised platform. They found getting up less suitable for older people or someone who had difficulty with low seating. The report concerns the room used, rather than a verified layout for every Standard room.

The same guest encountered some flooding during heavy rain and found carrying luggage awkward. That is a dated weather-related experience, not proof that access is flooded now. It does make current approach conditions and the path to the room important when mobility or large bags are concerns.

04

Maintenance and room allocation need their own context

The July guest liked strong shower pressure but noticed an old wardrobe. In August 2025, a Deluxe visitor praised the staff and countryside atmosphere. The accounts give a more mixed picture than either a uniformly tired property or a fully refreshed resort.

An October 2026 Standard guest reported not receiving the room type booked and described a communication problem at reception. This is an individual reservation experience. It supports confirming that the specific requested category is understood, without proving that the same error happens to every guest.

05

Where Phakawan fits the temple plan

Phakawan is worth examining for a driver who prefers an outlying garden-style stay and is comfortable checking the actual bed height and approach. It is a weaker fit for someone who wants town-centre walks or assumes a nature setting guarantees step-free access.

For Phra That Na Dun, keep the hotel in the wider Maha Sarakham overnight chapter and plan the separate outward-and-return journey. The room’s province and garden outlook do not place it alongside the relic monument.
